Thursday last week, I got a message from my tag board from Perla Paredes-Daly which says: "Teacher Sol, you are responsible for linking fabulousfilipinas movement with the "yang ang pinay" movement. You joined both, and i find yours and then i found theirs through your blog!! " What does Miss Daly say about FabulousFilipina movement? Exactly the same thing as what the "YAN ANG PINAY" movement has to say. Do we still turn a deaf ear to those who casually malign us? In every city and town, in every coffee shop and boardroom, on every radio and television station, in every newspaper and magazine, through the Internet and electronic mail, hear us. We can still influence the world through our words and example. We are positive. We are hopeful. We are Filipinas. Let me do a write-up in my blog (www.teachersol.blogspot.com) about this movement to invite my wide readers to join this community of fabulous filipinas.

Hi,im just new here and thanks to a filipina who is a very sucessful careerwoman based in New York. Lately and presently had a traumatic experience with a guy whom i had a relationship with for almost three years now a filipino who is based in Portland,Oregon and a citizen and whom he claimed that he is a divorcee but to my dismay he just easily damped me after learning that he is not yet divorced which a stupid thing he relayed to me last august,2004. at first,i didnt like this guy which at the start of the relationship i thought its just a pity on him and what is funny and so ashamed about myself is believing that he was unattached until a friend ofhis who is also in oregon broke the news that he was married and having trouble with his wife at that time but sad to say at that time i was beginning tofall for him which i cudnt break my relationship anymore. you might be thinking why am i writing this to you the reason why i would like to extend this story is first i couldnt move on with what had happened for reasons that i feel so betrayed and cheated, why?i focused myself for almost three years with him,i was so dedicated and faithful with him to the point that i was always with him whenever hes in trouble with his family,i never entertained any suitors and in fact i closed my doors to any possibilities of having relationships with any guy here, and what is worst is that i made him a good ephitomy to my mommmy and my siblings, and what is worst is that i expected too much with the relationships. why is it filipinos (men)in the US especially in portland oregon are all like this, they thought that filipinos(esp. women)think we are damn and easy to fool with and they thought we filipinas here dont have emotions and they can easily played with. I would be very honest and frank and that i wont be ashamed of being an educated lady i was fooled by a man without dignity in life, and dont care about my feelings and at the same time thought of something bad about me especially at the time that he is planning to damp me.with this,i would admit that i lost my self espteem and self pity destroys me little by little and couldnt focus now with my work because whenever i think that i was damped and betrayed tears fall down and suddenly lost interest in whatever i do especially in the office. why is it men in the states(especially men) are all like this? cant this website do something about this?especially women in the philippines be a victim by filipinos (men) in the states?why some filipinos think that filipinos here in the philippines are nothing?by the way,the guy im talking about is a filipino named nelson mercado balboa from 408 se 18th troutdale, oregon and this guy i heard was sent to prison by his wife and two daughters and recently heard from a friend that his wife is seeking justice from the court being a battered wife. and hope you can help his wife, too. i just hope with this website can help me overcome the pain and hurts i got from this relationship wit

I was using the search engine regarding ćFilipino organizationsä. With curiosity I click bagong pinay and found out itās really cool & interesting. Actually Iām looking for means to share this good business opportunity. A lot of people become successful thru direct selling. Iām looking for kababayan who has desire to earn aside from their regular job & who has desire for a change. This company is a 100% Filipino owned corporation. There is an unlimited income and you decide for your own time. Actually this business is a breakthrough for all Filipinos to show the whole world the quality our products have. At the same time we are helping our government because 10% is debited from our account everytime there is encashment of commissions. Commissions are paid in daily basis thru visa electron card. one thing more it is one way to help our less fortunate kababayan. And the most important is while helping others, you are helping yourselves. So kabayan if you think this business is good, browse this website. http://www.igenportal.com.ph If you need more clarification contact me. Dear friends on BagongPinay, I would like to invite you to submit articles, essays and also I would like to ask your help in distributing the call for articles below to women in your networks, especially those in your community. I am guest-editing this issue of the magazine published by Isis International-Manila. It is a very special issue that looks into "cultural diversity" and will include an audio CD of music by women from all over the Pacific. It would be a great value for us to highlight the positive work of Filipinas in the real and on-line communities. Later, we will also be having an on-line discussion on selected topics related to the cultural diversity debates - and I'd like to hear from you and your friends in the BagongPinay community what topics of urgency and interest you'd like us to take up; and of course, I'd like to invite you all who are interested to join the discussion group. The on-line discussions will also be included in Women in Action magazine (WIA). To learn more about Isis and WIA, just follow the URL below. And the on-line discussion will be held some time this week at the Korakora discussion list and perhaps also through the Unesco DigiArts listserv for Asia Pacific. Salamat, Fatima ========== Women in Action Call for Articles for Women in Action (WIA) NO. 1-2005 Women in Action, a magazine published by Isis International-Manila, covers a broad range of issues affecting women globally, with focus on the particular needs and concerns of women in the Global South as well as the problems of under-represented social groups in the Global North. For its next issue (1, 2005), Women in Action will feature the theme "Cultural Diversity." We welcome articles that discuss how women from the South and from the North address problems pertaining to cultural diversity in relation to the various aspects of ICT and media. We especially invite you to contribute articles that bridge theoretical elaboration with practical implementation on the following topics: Culture in relation to Identity, Development and Democracy: - How has the concept of cultural pluralism evolved from post-war reconstruction to the rise of newly independent states to satisfy the processes of globalization? - What kinds of dialogues between state and societal mechanisms do cultural policies reflect towards constructive pluralism? - Do cultural policies and implementations for the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions reaffirm or deny the rights and the full participation of women at all levels? The accelerating interdependence between Culture and Economies: - Are cultural goods becoming consumer goods in the guise of promoting cultural diversity? - Have the events of 11 September 2001 and the resulting conflicts between cultural relativism and fundamentalism, secularism and religion affected the production, dissemination and function of culturally diverse goods and services? - Is the need fo

I am still residing in the Philippines at this time and would like to apply for employment here in the US. Thank you. Evelyn Chavez de Castro

I appreciate the presence of this web site for Filipinas.I sent your Tayo Na invitation to my wife's email address and another family friend. For funds to keep the web site going, I suggest you check out www.quixtar.com. How it works is to just promote to your associates to purchase their groceries to www.quixtar.com instead of the regular stores. Quixtar does not advertise but sets aside a pool of money to Independent Business Owners(IBO). The money that an IBO's gets will depend on the volume of shopping done by the people she/he registered in the site. Just one of you needs to register as an IBO (cost only about ($60.00). My wife and myself will sponsor the one who will register as IBO. Then the new IBO registers the rest of her associates as CLIENTS at no cost. Clients can opt to register as IBOs also if she wants to build the business. If you have questions please email us. Thank you.

I chanced upon your site while I was doing my research on F. Sionil Jose's works. And when I looked at the threads on your forum page,it seems that a lot of people are interested in his works and in Philippine Literature. I'm really glad to see that. Going back to your site, it's nice to see that someone made an effort to put this up and try to make a change. I too, have tried to search for women groups/sites but have ended up with sites advertising young and pretty Pinays like they were commodities. It's a pity that even in the internet, the image of the Filipina is insulted and disrespected. If only the bigger picture can be shown (sigh). Anyway, I have yet to read all of your features and hope that I will be able to contribute an article someday (if you would permit).

I found the website very interesting. Though I have limited time reading what's on the web hope to spend more time browsing it. It's great to find out that Filipinas nowadays have become achievers in their own ways. Thanks for creating the web. Since i am working in government. I wanted to hear other Filipinas who are also working in government around the globe and to know more about them. I have a dream of working someday in federal government of the United States. Maybe if i am already a U.S. citizen.

YOur website sounds very interesting and helpful to filipina women needing support and others who are academics on women's issues. I am one such academic, who specialised on post-colonial women writers and did my doctorate at Oxford on Vientamese writer, Marguerite Duras. I'd read C.G. Nakpil as an undergrad and have never been a racist, as I'd had freinds from all backgrounds, male and female, since early childhood. In 1998, my brother married a woman from Manila, who attacked me verbally the night before her wedding to my brother, never bothering to ask me what I did...that I'd actually been advocating womens rights, from all backgrounds. After the wedding, my brother would not take messages, e-mails or any form of contact from me or my mother. I ended up with breast cancer while a graduate student, and I tried to call my brother the night before my first surgery. All he said was: "As far as I'm concerned, you're already dead." this is what has happened, without any overt 'fight' at all with my brother, since his marriage to this woman, who has virtually quarantined him from all 'threatening' members (i.e. women) of the family. I have not seen or spoken to my brother since, and I survived my horribly painful cancer treatment alone...certainly without anyone my brother's wife has convinced that I am his 'enemy". This is a very bad experience, and although I feel terribly injured, I still am a feminist, not a marxist feminist, but a clear advocate of better treatment and fair treatment of all women, but I still need this personal tragedy to be spoken, at long last. It's been 7 years I've just accepted this loss silently. Yours sincerely, Erna Cooper

Thank you for putting together a site that helps put a positive light on filipinas. Also, I would like to make a suggestion for a topic: Filipinas serving in the military. I tried to search that topic over the internet and once again I came across many negative stereotypes. I did not find any website that praised the accomplishments of our filipina sisters who have bravely served or are currently serving in the military--for the US or abroad. Let's not forget these women and I hope that in the near future I will be able to type up "Filipinas in the military" and find a collection of our brave sister warriors.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I just got migrated here in Calgary last May 25th of this year. I'm trying to get as much information on how to get in touch with my fellow filipinos living here in Calgary. I haven't meet any new friends yet. And I'm feeling quite lonely sometimes. But I'm glad I found this website. Hopefully I would be able to meet other filipinos using this site. Thanks!

i was born, raised and educated in the philippines. it is true that most of the educated ones tend to have strong opinions regarding feminism. i just wish that some readers would not target this belief as being biased, controlling, close-minded, etc. it is rather a trait that enables us filipinas to be aware of our existence and importance on this earth. as for being a singleton, i agree w/ one of your writers (sorry, 4got her name) that this issue is somewhat underrated. why can't some people accept the fact that there are some of us who are quite satisfied being single. we are not lesbians nor do we want to end up like our spinster aunts. but for the present, there are some of us who likes having the bed to ourselves, going out on a saturday night w/ friends w/out having to make up an explanation nor an excuse, moving to a different continent w/ ease, etc. i still have not thoroughly browsed your website but i like what i'm reading so far. i wil surely check on the filipina bride thing as i seem to be reading a lot of negative feedbacks. anyhow, GOD BLESS!!!

I find this site ironically misleading. Yep. Like rain on a wedding day. A free ride when you've already paid. A good advice you didn't take. Like a website to re-present the Filipina image in cyberspace, as 'response to what non-Filipina, commercial enti`ties were narrowly representing her to be - - - impoverished, subservient husband-seekers or sex-crazed-flesh-baring babes.' It makes one wonder whether it's those commercial enti`ties or this supposed-beacon-of-Filpinaness who does the 'selling'. Superficially, yes, these commercial sites do present Filipinas as submissive petite english-speaking ideal wives if not talented practicioners of aesthetic human kinetics. But isn't this a crystal clear projection of social reality itself? or was the Light too blinding? These commercial sites won't be put up without the fact that the vast majority of our citizens suffer the pressures of extreme poverty, a compelling force to make one embrace dehumanization. The reality that many have nothing else to rely on but their own bodies. Re-representing the Filipina image as composed by the privileged class is nothing more than a papaya exfolient whitewash (talk about that query for skin whitening products at the feedback page). The 'Who is a Filipina' introduction connotes rejection and utter disgust of the exploited(most exploited) class, and this, as you might admit as well, a blasphemy to Nationalism. If this site is not a Filipina advocacy channel i supposed it is, then it must be a propaganda for Filipina elitism. I wish i'm not the first one to notice this. Must mean i have to buy the domain www.bagongpinoy.com and put up a site which would represent Filipinos as the discerning, opinionated, able-to-afford-computers-and-internet-access and sex-crazed-flesh-baring men that 'we are'. _______________________ malaki ang en#####es ko. ha ha. nice censoring technology. made in the Philippines

Their is such thing as reverse snobbery. Snobbery stops you from thinking of the other person's story, their humanity. The so called volunteers who, in their spare time contribute or run the site, you call elitist are women from all over the world who have come to a point in their lives who believe in giving back in some form or another. Many of our visitors and contributors have also experienced hardship in their lives and have overcome struggles such as poverty and educational attainment.

don't just stand there and rant and rave about those who are doing something and giving something of their lives, get into the fray and give of yourself too. Criticism divides, alienates and can be a waste of your good energy. Channel your energy into positive action---online or off. I wish you many blessings in your search for manifesting your own talent and intelligence that serves others.s

Hey great site I really enjoy it. I am currently stationed in Iraq with the United States Air Force. It's about time a site like yours came up and was published. I am currently engaged to an intelligent and lovely Philippine. Your site has provided me with a great insight on the Philippine culture. I am having a slight problem entering some of your links or sights. When ever I click a particular site it asks me for my log on name and passed word (error message sample below). Is there anywhere I am supposed to register before I proceed any further. Thank You Serving Proudly L. Gonzales

Ricky,

I found your inquiry about some test results. Actually, you are not the first person to ask us via email regarding test results.

We merely provide the service of connecting you to people online. You must have been posting things about test results in one of the message boards that we provide. There are people posting in the message boards where you may be able to correspond with them. I cannot help you in this, nor can any of the volunteer staff. Again, this is a service that we provide for connecting our visitors with others. We are not responsible for any test results or testing services.

Please refer to our Terms of Service online for the extent of our responsibilities and offers online. http://www.newfilipina.com/TOS.html

Dear Beautiful People of the New Filipina.Com, I just happened to look at the Bizland Stats and discovered that you have linked my website under the area of Filipinas who make us proud. Thank you very much for the acknowledgment. I loved my job as an Ateneo university teacher. But now I am in Calgary, Alberta, taking Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology. I have not updated my website since last year because our computer at home is a MacIntosh and does not support Microsoft's Front Page Extension. However, I recently acquired a computer in my office that runs on Microsoft. I might be able to update my website. Again, accept my gratitude and continue doing the good works! I'm proud to be a Filipina! Sincerely yours, Amy Chaves

Mail Order Brides, this is a stupid phrase, that opperation stoped long ago, nowhere have I foud a site where you can pay money , pick a girl, and have her sent to you. As an Anerican, I have had it with American Women, all they care about is themselfs. I have several friends married to either Mexican Ladies or Filipinas, they all say if the lost their wifes they would go get another one, but they would never go back to an American Girl. There are many problems with Americans Men Abusing Filipino women as well as Filipino women abusing and destroying Good american men, this is unfortunate, But there IS NO WAY YOU WILL STOP THE FILIPINO DATING/INTRIDUCTORY SITES! Most Good Amerucan men are looking for A GOOD WIFE! AND I THINK ALOT OF fILIPINO LADIES WANT A GOOD HUSBAND! There is nothing wrong with that! I find the Filipino culture & Strong Family ties very appealing, something lacking in America. I would like to Find a GOOD Filipino wife and am looking for one now. But all this Negativity about these sites and the Womens Lib stuff is VERY distructive. Filipino women should not be treated like slaves or Subserviants, they are warm loving women from what I know of them here in the states. They need to be treated with Respect, if this site wants to go after something, then go after these so called "Welcome Groups" that destroy marriages. I get so tired about Groups talking about the EXPLOITING of filipino women, what about the EXPLOITING of the WESTERN MEN and their PROPERTY! There are problems on both side which no-one is going to change, I do not care what you do, People are people, Good or Bad, stuff happens, and there is nothing you can do about it! So why make people's lifes miserable and push your Ideas on someone else! For one I respect the Philippines, its culture, and People. I feel it is a Great Country. I am Sorry if American Men have abused and caused problems while there on vacation or in the service of the US Military. Lack of Respect is no excuse, but this problem goes on both sides, Filipino families trying to get their daughters married off for Monetary wealth $$$ isd wrong. Still I feel Filipino women makes some of the best wifes in the world. And the Philippines is a True Treasure in the Pacific. So what else would GOOD American Do for a comapanion, when the women here in the USA are no-good, then you have to go off shore! There is no other option! And to all filipino women, forget the MONEY, nothing on this world can take the place of Family, & True Love, for if you don't have both of these then you don't have nothing! Best Wishes Sincerely Rob ~

I am Filipina living in Seattle,WA for quite sometimes now. I am very fortunate for choosing this State to resides, for the fact that Filipina here are very " open" on having a relationship with different races, learning other's culture and "roots". Specially, dating African-American gentlemen. I myself dates African-American men. I find them vey attractive, strong, very opionated, family-oriented people. It's not about money, green card etc., It's about following your heart. And it's just happened that I fell in love with a very loving, compassionate African- American man.The good thing about in our relationship is we want to learn more about each other's culture.

Dear Rachel: Thanks for your feedback. Right now, we don't have the resources to create a teen section, but I hope someday that this site will be able to do that. In the meantime, there is one site that i know of that is for Filipina teenagers. It is www.candymag.com. For U.S. links there are http://teenadvice.about.com/library/weekly/aa071801a.htm, www.teenvoices.com, www.youngwomensproject.org. Hope you will still come back and visit us. --- Perla Daly, Founder/Site Director.

Hello! I read the article about "Pinay Redefined" in the Inquirer and I totally agree with Perla that a Filipina is 'finding new horizons for herself'. I am presently an MA (on Women & Development) student in UP and I wonder if I could join your organization. Like you, I dream of an empowered Filipina. And contrary to what most men believe, we are not out to outdo them. I believe in peaceful co-existence. If men would only see us as an equal and not as a threat, then there should be no problem. Have you considered reaching out to the men too? Hope you would do your programs with men in your minds, too. Looking forward to your reply, Ruby Gan

Tayo Na! Feedback Form - Part 1
I checked out the website weddingsatwork.com, went to see their partner sites and found the site filipinawives.com. At the bottom of their front page is an article about the book, "A Long Way to Go for a Date," by Henry Makow, an American man who goes to the Philippines to meet a Filipino woman who is reputed to be "family-oriented, loving, and supportive."
The review of the book, written by the publisher of filipinawives.com, mentions that Mr. Makow resorts to looking for a wife in the Philippines because the women in the US and Canada are "brainwashed by feminists." Both the writer and Mr. Makow believe "that feminists in the West have destroyed the viability of a traditional marriage."
A pity, isn't it? There are still so many men who view marriage in terms of how it will satisfy their ideals and not in terms of how it can make the two people who enter into the partnership happy.I understand that these men are entitled to their opinions. I am also giving them the benefit of the doubt, they must be better than they sound because co-Filipinas have married them. But what appalls me to no end is how they view the feminist movement as a destructive force. The movement enabled women all over the world to have a say on their own existence, e.g. women's suffrage, the choice to pursue a career, etc. Is that too much to ask for?
It is very disheartening that many people still feel the way that the two men mentioned above feel. Often, I am inspired by how far people all over the world have come in terms of tolerance and respect, and then you happen upon those who've opted to be left behind. There's still so much "brainwashing" to do.

My comment is that if pinay girlz think that just cause the other girlz are representen on wearin all the tyte close they are wearing don't mean that they got to wear it to. If they think on there own minds and don't listen to anyone or listen to peer pressure they would likely to succed. They should not fight they shouldnt be folowers they should jux be leaders that will help them along the way of a buitiful life. Now im only what 13 and i live in the ghetto side of california so i know all the things that pinay girlz should know about the lifes of other girlz. I want to talk about the other things like boys. I think that parents should trust us pinay girls cause if they give us there trust we will respect them and we wont do anything bad or the things we should not do with our boyfriends but I think that our parents know they raised us good enough to know what not to do and what to do and how far we could go so they should just lay back and give us our fredom to have a boyfriend. They should sometimes make rules like if u get ur grades up enough then u could have a boyfriend but if u have low grades i guess they should wait till they have higher grades that is all the things i need to take off my chest right now. Hope you know what i am saying please listen to what i am saying i should know about this. With all the pressure on me about guapo guys i really wan't a boyfriend but i dont wanna lie to my parents so im just going to stay on my eduacation first because i don't want to let down my parents. Thank you i hope you read my post and really think about what i am saying. bye bye.

Am I glad that there's a website for Filipina women! The kind of women that I want to be associated with, of course. I am sick and tired of Filipina women being portrayed as dh and all. I do believe that we Filipina women have more than meets the eye. If more Filipina women feel that way, I understand how they feel. But I believe that we Muslim women in the Philippines suffer more because of the double cross we are bearing. First as Filipina women and secondly as Muslim women. Not because we are not proud of being Muslims but like the Filipina at large, we Muslims are also negatively portrayed. I feel that it is quiet unfair for any woman to be portrayed what she is not. Not all Filipinas are what they think they are, and so are the Muslim women. I feel sad when my fellow Filipinos themselves look at us as if we are carrying bombs in our bags, or as if we are terrorists. Of course we are not. If some of our people are bad, it doesnot make all of us bad. As they say, kahit saang mang gubat ay may ahas. Anyway, I am really glad that there's a website for us Filipinas. I am actually also active in women advocacy in our place. I stumbled on this site while I was searching for women groups. I scan through your mails and I found out you do not get more mails from your Muslim sisters often. You see, we need to bridge the gap of communication for us to understand each other. We can actually work and live together. Mabuhay! Elin

Subject: Why?! I see that you have a link on your site to Weddings @ Work.com. I want to call to your attention (1) their 2 features on "You know that you married a Filipina if..." both articles, written by white men who married a Filipina. (2) One of the authors is the creator of FilipinaWives.com. (3) Your button which links to this site is directly below the Filipina Wives button. What gives? A Filipino website that gives public forum to white men (who supposedly are married for the right reasons to Filipina nationals) to make fun of their wives? On top of that, linking to a racist and mysogynist website all about the Filipina bride? And Bagong Pinay, endorsing (whether it be intentional or unintentional) all of it, by allowing their link to be placed on the same page as "FilipinaWives.com", hell, even on the same site, and then having a reciprocal link to "WeddingsAtWork.com" on your site. I say this with all respect, I have to call you on this. I look to newfilipina.com to enlighten me, and encourage my Pinayism. It saddens me when I see this great website linked to FilipinaWives.com and WeddingsAtWork.com (which accepts support from the Filipina Wives). It just doesn't make sense. Please explain.

Whoa! Finally a site that is a sight for sore-eyes on the internet about Filipinas. I am currently working on a project for women on March that will celebrate us, the way we are and not as what other extremists would say we must be. It is the woman as a being with dignity. It will be the biggest event ever(i hope) that will gather the support of media, artists, and phenomenal women. In line with this, I stumbled upon your site and all the more inspiring it is for me to work towards this goal because 50% of the net sales for this event will go to an organization that takes care of the battered Filipinas. It does have a sustaining campaign but the cost implication is quite a figure. I think I will be needing your help in terms of coordinating and borrowing some works of the core members and probably some footages of Filipina events over there in the US. I shall be corresponding with you for projects that we can probably weave for the good of all Filipina! A Filipina is someone proud of her weaknesses because it is from this waterloo that we discover our hidden strengths. No longer silent but actively participating in everything that involves her, revolves around her basic concerns and that of what would help her evolve- having a choice, a personal shoice to be whole and complete! More power to you...

Thank you! Thank you for putting together such an intelligent, compassionate, and tasteful website for Filipinas all over the world. I received the Bagong Pinay URL from a friend's friend's e-mail, one of those multiple forwarded e-mails, and am very grateful to that person. Your articles are very insightful and provocative, unlike many of the fluff pieces in many women's websites and magazines. It's also great to see that many other Filipinas crave for this kind of material. Maraming Salamat! Tricia Capistrano

Dear BagongPinay, I have noticed that you have promoted click-to-donate sites, specifically thehungersite.com, from within you website. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Hits Against Hunger.Com, a new inititive in online activism. Hits Against Hunger.Com was established co-operatively between Alan Shawn Feinstein and the Feinstein Foundation of Providence Rhode Island, International Mining and Development and Supericco Internet Services. The site went online in September of 2000 and through this, over $75 000 has already been donated. The reason for this high donation total is that through Hits Against Hunger.Com all donations are $1.00, that is over 80 cups of food, and 100% of that donation goes to the charities. This value is unmatched in the click-to-donate industry. For this we have Hits Against Hunger's benefactor, Alan Shawn Feinstein and The Feinstein Foundation to thank. I also feel it is important to add that I am trying to differentiate Hits Against Hunger.Com from the pack of click-to-donate sites by providing our users with more than just the opportunity to donate a few cups of food. To achieve this, I have created a set of what I call "HungerTools". These tools allow users of Hits Against Hunger.Com to accomplish more than just the donation. These tools are . . . “HungerPartners” allows anti-hunger charities and hunger groups to participate in Hits Against Hunger.Com and the Feinstein challenge as recipients of donations “HungerWatch” will provide users with the opportunity to view their donation proceeds in action. On a page that users view after the donation process is complete, Hits Against Hunger.Com will feature real-time video of food being distributed from a “HungerPartners” project. The pilot project, which starts in November, will feature web-cam video of food being distributed from a food bank in Toronto. I think users will really enjoy the chance to see their donations transformed into tangible foodstuffs for the hungry. “HungerMail” provides users with the ability to email their political representatives regarding hunger policies and programs. This allows the user to lobby his/her state/federal representatives on hunger issues. “HungerAlert” is an email-based tool that sends Hits Against Hunger.Com users messages when a world hunger related crisis arises. In all, I think that by providing individual charities with the ability to receive proceeds from Hits Against Hunger.Com, by donate a comparatively large amount of money per donation, and by providing users with a better opportunity to participate in online hunger activism, Hits Against Hunger.Com stands head and shoulders above our peers in the click-to-donate industry. Let me know what you think about my strategies. If possible please include a link to hits against hunger from your pages, Code for banners is available at . . . http://www.hitsagainsthunger.com/html/code.html Thank you. It is

Discovering that we have a web page like this uplifts my spirit more as a filipina, because I'm very much disappointed of the negative perception that net users of different nationality have about us, filipinas. I really hope that a lot of people, not only net users, have a clear perception of what a true filipina is, someone who still have her values instilled within her, despite of all the changes and modernization our world has been going into.

Congratulations on your two year Anniversary.I think your site offers Filipinos an interesting, thought-provoking and safe community. So I decided to become a member. ButI was filling out your registration form for membership when I was very surprised to find that Philippines is not in your list of countries to choose from. I do think this is an oversight for a website that caters mainly to Filipinos. I know I could still register but I could not bring myself to choose "not listed" as my country. I hope you can correct this. I look forward to joining Bagong Pinay then. May you have more years of creativity.

hello, i am a Scotsman married to a Filipina..but wait!! i am 29 and my wife is the same age...we met on the net and i think you have a fantastic site..i have had problems with people who want to attach them selves onto me thinking that i met my wife through an introductory agency or a mail-order-bride site....these people make me sick and its great to finally come across a site that doesnt believe that the solution to all the problems that face pinays today is to marry a foreigner (usually americans) but instead to live life for them self and be empowered from their own inner strength and not the self righteous attitudes of of filipinos that have moved away from the philippines and have this need to lord it over filipinos back home as if they are better than they are...my wife and i are proffessional people and are proud of our filipino/scottish roots...we didnt meet through an introductory agency and we are so pleased that there are others out there that have the same sense of abhorance to such an undignified, disrespectful and degrading system...more and more, people are using the philippines like a 'bride supermarket'...choose one from the catalogue...pay for it then take it home...it needs to be changed to stop the west plundering the east. you guys do great work and have my whole hearted support.. NO OFFENCE is intended or implied to anyone who did meet their wife/husnbands through this type of system..if it makes you BOTH happy then thats all that matters.

Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat! My name is Myrna and am a third-year student at the University of California, Davis majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. I was born and raised in San Jose, CA and have been a part of the Filipino-Amercian community there. However, in a university setting of 25,000 students with only 8% being Filipino, it is hard to keep "in touch" with who we are with the little resources available and the busyness of academics. I would personally like to thank you for setting up this website. Just viewing some of the articles posted has reminded me of how proud I am of my culture and heritage. Keep up the good work!

11/13/99 I haven't touched your site since last year,Oct. of '98. I must say you've come far, even in the 'look' and professionalism of the site. Sifting through some of the views and opinions of your respondents are giving understanding to who we are (myself included with them). Maybe never face-to-face but 'the words' they choose in expressing the true condition of their soul and where they are at in life continually gives me 'connection' to the filipino community that is ever changing...

dear newfilipinas, i heard about your website from a fil-american girlfriend of mine who lives in the NYC area. sad to say, my first reaction was that of suspicion and arrogance: aha, another one of those myopic, superficial, unsubtstancial filipino attempts at being like americans. i'm tired of that phoney trash. HOWEVER, i spent a couple (dozen) minutes on the site, and i think it's totally great! First of all, thank you for delivering an intelligent, sensible, beautiful site dedicated to and created by Filipinas. after being away for 12 years, i returned to the Philippines at age 18 and was horrified by the kind of literary trash available, and the complete lack of literary ressources (things are much better today, thank god). i especially enjoyed reading Leny Strobel's piece. as i would like very much to contribute to your e-zine, expect to hear from me again soon... maraming salamat, Windy

There is a cettain richness in my heritage that I feel I've neglected, or perhaps the place the Filipina culture is placed here in America is hard for me to reach. My mother is the one who passed down my pacific islander genes. She was born here herself, and i think we both could feed from this empowerment your website gives. Thanks so much!!! I want to be more involved! There is much to be done, and I love to see women who are Filipina that I can look up to in a different way then my aunts and grandma. The web is giving us power!! The Bagong Pinay web site is a refreshing space for women on the Internet. It's so frustrating when you visit other women's pages in the Net, especially the more popular commercial sites. Those sites reflect the content of the so-called "women's magazines", which are so preoccupied with MEN (how to get them, how to keep them, how to lose them). I just wanted to let you women know how much I appreciate this intelligent site. Now this is what I'd call "Women's Page". Thanks.

Thank you for composing such a beautiful web site.  I am starting to volunteer with a Women's web radio network, and find such work inspirational.  Being a Pinay at 20, it is a constant stuggle to find my voice.  Seeing sisters in action keeps me going. I work for Filipino American Social Services doing work with High School youth.  If you could mail me info on the minds behind this all, that would be great.  I'm heading of young Pinays (Pinays Rising Into Dynamic Empowerment) and I would like them to know that there are strong women doing such work. Many Thanks!

To all the beautiful filipina's of the world, I share the same common idea that will bring the steady beliefs of being strong in beauty, religion, culture and aspire to create the finest filipina's this world has to offer. Strong pinay means to me is to a be wise pinay. Making beliefs in religion, education and a sense of family value has always being our cultures finest trait. the beauty that puts us greater is the sense of pride and willingness to aspire to any boundaries and fufill all that is to achieve. Nothing bounds a true pinay but the sense of truth and grace the gives you all the beauty that you all already have. In my case, I'm a proud filipino man. Salamat. M.S. Beltrano Jr.

I am so thrilled to find a web site that deals a lot of Pinays. As a feminist Pinay and totally concern with issues regarding my sisters, I have been longing to do a documentary about Filifinas. I am currently doing a research on specific subjects. However, I'd like to know if there are any other chapters or organizations that deal with Pinay issues aside from this site. I would like to continue my correspondence with your site. I wanted to applaud you putting up the bamboo girl article. I'm disappointed that you put up an apology, it's quite spineless, it's really refreshing to find a filipina perspective that isn't full of vapidly pretentious big words. Wow ... I had bookmarked the link to BagongPinay earlier today, but can't seem to remember where I saw the link, knowing only that this was a site I was very interested in seeing. Needless to say, I was very happy to have discovered your site....I am a 25-year-old Filipina. My family and I moved from the Philippines in 1983, living in and around the New York tri-state area since, I've always felt a loss of contact with my heritage that grew as the years passed. It's very comforting to know that there's a Web site out there that could possibly help me get back in touch with who I am as a Filipina, without being too old-fashioned and boring. For this, I must say thank you. I would also like offer my services as a Web designer, if you ever need help. After all, it's one way I could contribute, and one which I would fully enjoy. Please feel free to visit my own personal site at http://www.wedgieworld.com. Thank you again, for bringing the site out there - I will be sure to send my friends over.

I'm a filipino and I like the concept of your home page and I am actually supporting it (nevermind how). My only comment is that.. when will be the next update? I mean, for me Sept. 15 sure do sound old. Just a suggestion.. how about adopting the style of Pinoylife.com wherein the author updates it from time to time even if there's no change in the contents. For me it's a different feeling to read something that is updated. It's like even if there's no change in the contents, the author keeps on reviewing it and I feel like the home page is an active site. Thanks and more power!

I would like to comment on the article on beauty pageants by Ms. Alcantara-Tan. I understand how much people adore her writing and views, etc... but why do you choose to "publish" such a hateful article in your website? Do you not realize that some of the beauty queens being riciduled might also be visiting your site? And what then when they read it? Don't you think that by writing that checklist, Ms. Alcantara-Tan is creating yet another stereotype... how can she possibly know that all these qualities pertain to each and every young woman that are paraded on independence day? Is she not aware that a majority of those girls were probably forced by their parents to attend those events? Why must she imply all these negative superficialities on young Filipina women? Just because she is a very outspoken person, Ms. Alcantara-Tan should not feel she has the freedom to judge others so harshly. And frankly, I think that the people at New Filipina should stop currying favor (in other words, kissing ass) to Ms. Alcantara-Tan by allowing such articles to be published. Her style and attitude does not belong in New Filipina. As a young Filipina woman, I feel that such negativity should be carefully considered before it is allowed onto your site. Thank you for your time. Sincerely
A Very Disappointed and Very Anonymous Visitor

I'm interested in finding out more about Bagong Pinay.  Is this also a magazine that I can subscribe to?  I was born and raised in the Philippines.  I am a Filipina residing in California (Bay Area) working as an executive secretary for a school that has campuses all over the U.S. and some parts of Canada.  I also worked as a flight attendant for PAL some years ago. My children can definitely benefit from reading articles featured in Bagong Pinay.

more power to your webpage! im a filipino male. i would like to make a suggestion. i hope you can add site links of single filipinas back in the P.I. whom would like to correspond to only single Filipino males here in the U.S. w/ no fees just plain correspondence from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. honestly, i'm tired of those penpal site that charges you to buy the girl's address. again only to single filipino males that have jobs, responsible, and looking for friendship, companionship, & relationship with a true single filipina back home. Maraming Salamat!!

Kabayan, while I was testing the searchability of my web site (in the Web Crawler search engine), I was delighted that your web site was one of those thrown at me.  Like you, I am horrified by the huge number of web sites "selling" Filipinas.  I am really happy that you had taken action by putting up this wonderful site proving that Filipinas are more than just housewives, maids, dancers, and...  pardon me for my frankness...  walking "vaginas."  Please keep it up.  There are hardly any web sites dedicated to the well-being of Filipinas. I would be happy to contribute some of my time and effort to your cause.  (So look out!  You'll be hearing more from me!) I am really REALLY proud of all of you!  Please take a look at my personal web site and see if any of my work interests you.  I am a "visual-designer-in-progress."  It's unfortunate that you are located all the way in New York City(?), I would have loved interning/working with you on your web site! Click here to go to my site ---->  Welcome (http://home.earthlink.net/~mrtnz) Take care and wishing you all the best,

Hello, I was just surfing the web looking for a link to a particular Filipino site when I happened up the NewFilipina web page. I just want to say that this site seems to be very promising; with interesting artwork and ambitious plans for the future. Since I am pinoy and this site is directed towards pinays I don't think I will be dropping by too often in the future but I just wanted to wish you Good Luck. P.S. I don't understand the comments about Filipinas fulfilling a subservient role in our society. All the Filipinas I've ever met have been strong willed, assertive, and absolutely confident in their abilities.

Hi, I'd like to reply to some messages, but there is no place for me to make the reply. I find it hard to read the whole board to look for the reply to a message I just read. You may think it's not very hard to look for the reply since there are not that many messages, but some people may have a limited time to read the forum. And of course, the messageboard may last longer than you think it will. I'm not a web publisher, but I've seen messageboards on the net and I know threading the messages can be done. Just a suggestion. :) I'm a full-pledged Pinay too and I consider the success of a Filipino the success of the whole Filipino community.

hi! a round of applause to you both for creating this website! i'm a new york based pinay artist and i'm interested in contributing/showing my artwork. how do i go about it? i also want to comment on the absence of queer pinays. i didn't see it being addressed or mentioned anywhere, although i haven't thoroughly browsed everywhere. i hope you include us...women loving women (womyn loving womyn) bagong pinays! i think it is important to get our views on life, love, art,...we are invisible most of the time so it's really important that our other pinay sisters know that there are a lot of queer pinays who are great! powerful, beautiful, talented, positive role models! i'd like to know how you feel about this. again, congratulations! christina "ling" quisumbing ramilo

this is really a bright idea you came up with. now it is all up to those who participate how they can make good use of this website.
what is the new filipina like? this is really very broad. do they have less values than what filipinas from yesterday had? is morality still an issue to the new filipina?
are they more ambitious and career oriented? can they stand on their own two
feet without depending on a man? do they still believe "till death do us part" even if
they have been beaten up or cheated on
every single time? just what is the new filipina like?
i guess there is no new or old filipina. it is how we were brought up. it depends on what our foundation was when we were growing up. it depends on what values we were taught. it depends on how we were
taught to fight for what we believed in or to just keep quiet about what we feel because as women, our views and opinions don't count.
in other words, to each its own. there will always be a conflict in what and how every filipina thinks. we are only alike
because we are all from the philippines and more or less,we have the same color and physical likeness. but aside fro
