Pinay in London
I’ve been here for 11 years and the cold still fazes me just like the first day I’ve stepped into Heathrow Airport one cold, grey May afternoon.
In fairness, it’s not so bad as I haven’t resorted yet to taking out from my under bed storage, my Hunters wellies / boots but it’s getting there. A friend told me that I should fatten up to protect myself from the cold (yeah right, what a great advice!) but my new wool / cashmere red coat so far has kept me nice and warm of late.
As I was walking back towards home from work, it finally dawned on me regardless that I’m a Cebuana (born and raised under the sun) or not, everyone in the city feels exactly the same way as I do. Not everyone anticipates the cold nor particularly likes it but it is very much part of the natural law of season changes.
The only thing that I can change about it is to brighten up my day or others day using one of my most powerful tool. My “sunny” disposition and plenty of oranges (for some vitamin C dosage) to substitute for the sun-less days I’ve been experiencing lately.
Cold and dreary London meets Sunny and cheery Cebuana! I’ve yet to prove I’ve won!
